Movers and Shakers: CTIA names 2011 officers; Ericsson taps Wareby to lead sales; and more

CTIA announced its 2011 officers and said six new members have been elected to its executive committee. The new officers are Dan Hesse, CEO of Sprint Nextel; Pat Riordan, president and CEO of Cellcom; Mary Dillon, president and CEO of U.S. Cellular; and Bret Comolli, chairman of Asurion. Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO of AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets, will serve as chairman emeritus. Members of the executive committee representing wireless carriers are Frank O’Mara, CEO of Allied Wireless Communications; F.J. Pollack, president and CEO of TracFone; and Ron Smith president of Bluegrass Cellular. New executive committee members that represent other suppliers are Philip Christopher, president and CEO of Personal Communications Devices L.L.C.; Tony Holcombe, president and CEO of Syniverse; and E.Y. Snowden, president and CEO of Tatara Systems.
Jan Wareby has been tapped to head Ericsson’s sales and marketing efforts starting in 2011. Wareby currently is senior vice president, head of the multimedia business unit and a member of Ericsson’s executive leadership team.
Flash Networks appointed Bryan Visser senior vice president of worldwide sale. Prior to joining the company, Visser was vice president and general manager of the EMEA region for ByteMobile and Openwave.
Bright House Networks promoted Craig Cowden to senior vice president of network engineering and operations. Previously, Cowden was vice president and general manager of business operations and support services at the company.
Semiconductor solutions company Inside Secure said it made several promotions following its recent purchase of Atmel Corp.’s Secure Microcontroller Solutions business. The company promoted Charles Walton to chief operating officer. He most recently was executive vice president of payments. Christian Fleutelot, formerly managing director of Atmel’s SMS business, is now general manager of the company’s VaultIC-Secure Microcontroller business unit. The company named Andy Bear general manager of the company’s new East Kilbride UK operations. Bertrand Moussel has been promoted to executive vice president of worldwide sales. Finally, Lim Boon Heong was appointed general manager for the Asia-Pacific region.
Qualcomm Inc. said Dr. Francisco Ros has been appointed to its board of directors. Ros recently served as Secretary of State of the government of Spain, where he was responsible for telecommunications and the development of the information society in the country.
