Tele2 AB announces operating revenue increase

NEW YORK-Pan-European telecom company Tele2 AB announced a 20-percent increase in operating revenue to $5.2 billion for 2003. Full-year profit was $334.9 million.

Mobile business highlights include the company’s mobile operations in Sweden, which reported 3.3 million customers at the end of last year, an annualized increase of 10 percent, said the company. Monthly average revenue per user was about $23. Prepaid mobile users accounted for 76 percent of the company’s total mobile customer base in the country. Its mobile margins in the country fell below 50 percent, which the company said was expected and was due to increasing price competition.

Also during 2003, Tele2 launched mobile Internet and multimedia messaging services in Estonia.
