CWC opens office in El Salvador

After winning a contract in April to supply and manage an emergency services call system for El Salvador’s national police force, the Panama unit of Cable & Wireless Communications (CWC) has opened an office in the Central American country.

For CWC, which provides managed telecom services for corporate and government customers, its main goal is to extend its expertise into a new market. Its new office is located at Plaza Futura in San Salvador, El Salvador’s capital, which is home to nearly half of the country’s 6.2 million residents.

Cable & Wireless Panama has implemented a number of social telecom projects (telecom-enabled public services) in Panama including teleradiology, telemammography, closed-circuit television surveillance, a court telecom system and a 911 service.

The 911 platform integrates feeds from existing CCTV cameras in San Salvador and GPS-enabled devices for vehicles and officers on foot patrol. Officers work with PDAs to track their location and enable them to access the police database remotely.
