It may not be first to the game, but Dish Network Corp. (DISH) is making the inevitable move from the living room to smart phone a little easier for its subscribers with soon-to-be launched mobile app.
According to The Associated Press, Dish is planning to release a new app for Apple Inc.’s (AAPL) iOS, Research In Motion Ltd.’s (RIMM) BlackBerry operating system and Google Inc.’s (GOOG) Android OS in September.
Subscribers will either have to purchase a SlingBox for $180 to $300 or upgrade to Dish’s more advanced digital video recorder for $200 to $400, which includes SlingBox features but also comes with a $10 monthly fee for the DVR service.
The app will allow users to change channels and access programs recorded on their DVR.
Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) announced a similar app for the iPad back in May at The Cable Show.
