Bits and Bytes: Hipcricket marketing platform; medication application; and more

Hipcricket launched its HIP 6.0 platform, which is a cloud-based mobile marketing and advertising platform. The product includes enhanced analytics and hyperlocal targeting capabilities, said the company.

Emerging Healthcare Solutions Inc. announced an iPhone application it says will reduce medication errors for senior citizens. The “Auto-Med” application automatically calls users each day to remind them which medications to take when and at what dosage. The company plans to charge $10 per month for a subscription to the service and hopes to enroll 1 million subscribers the first year.

MTV released its MTV News App, which provides current articles about pop culture, television, music, movies, celebrity and gaming news, as well as video and photo content. The application also provides access to MTV blogs including Buzzworthy and Hollywood Crush. The application is available free on iPhones and is expected to be available soon for iPad users.

Qualcomm Inc. said its FLO TV Inc. subsidiary will offer ESPN’s coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup on FLO TV devices and AT&T Mobile TV capable handsets. In related news, AT&T said it has teamed up with Univision to launch the Univision 2010 FIFA World Cup application, which is a Spanish-language TV app from U-verse TV. AT&T said it plans to provide Univision Spanish-language content in the U-Verse TV On Demand library and Mexican team Spanish content.

Astellia, which provides monitoring solutions for mobile network optimization, said it has been selected as part of a consortium by an Indonesian operator to optimize its 3G network and data services in Jakarta and Bandung. The consortium includes Astellia, Cybercom and Excel Consulting.

Motorola Inc. launched a responsible driving awareness campaign in conjunction with National Safe Driving Month in June. The campaign includes a hands-free awareness element aimed at educating drivers about how to safely communicate while driving. Motorola said it will tour this summer with its Get Smarter cars, and it will showcase technologies like its H17txt with MotoSpeak headset that reads text messages to customers. The company also launched an Android application that allows users to research hands-free legislation by location.

Two Japanese carriers chose Andrew’s HELIAX 2.0 Smoothwall Cables to support their 3G/4G networks. Andrew is a division of CommScope Inc.

Verizon Wireless won two awards from the Alliance for Workplace Excellence. The company received the Workplace Excellence Seal of Approval and was named a Health & Wellness Trailblazer for promoting professional fulfillment along with personal wellness.
