Infrastructure awards wrap-up: Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, Alcatel-Lucent and more

The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–Ireland: Meteor Mobile Communications has chosen Ericsson to supply a W-CDMA/HSPA network including microwave transmission.
–Malaysia: Nokia Siemens Networks said it won a contract to expand Celcom’s 3G radio and packet core network using HSPA technology.
WiMAX
–Venezuela: DragonWave Inc. said Omnivision has standardized on DragonWave for licensed-frequency wireless backhaul as it expands its WiMAX offering into markets across Venezuela.
Miscellaneous
–Poland: Ericsson said it has been chosen to supply its mobile softswitch solution to Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa to boost network capacity, performance and coverage.
–Switzerland: Sunrise has elected to outsource the operation of its fixed, mobile and data networks to Alcatel-Lucent beginning Aug. 1. The value of the agreement is nearly $530 million over seven years. The contract includes the transfer of 290 employees to Alcatel-Lucent.
–United States: Aruba Networks said it has been chosen by the Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 in Illinois to provide wireless LAN and identity-based security for use in the districts 28 elementary, intermediate and high schools.
