Bring on the cast from Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends
Cartoon Network New Media announced the development of CallToons, a mobile application that allows cellphone users to select their favorite Cartoon Network or Adult Swim character to essentially replace the general theme of their device.
CallToons, which will be launched by the end of the year, is based on a new technology that supplants ordinary mobile-phone functions such as ringtones and wallpapers with an “all-encompassing entertainment platform provided by the users’ favorite character,” the network said. The technology promises to deliver a “character-driven narrative experience unlike any mobile content offering available on the market today” that will also include ringbacks and audio and text alerts. Additional features are expected later. The application marks the first content announcement between Turner Broadcasting System International and L.M. Ericsson.

Embarq kicks off unlimited wired-wireless calling with Vegas cellphone wedding
Lifetime commitment, or just another quickie celebrity Vegas wedding sure to be annulled? Embarq Corp. announced the nuptials of two telephones at The Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas: one representing Embarq’s wireless service and the other Embarq’s home landline service. The ceremony was performed by Bob Eubanks, host of “The Newlywed Game” TV show, and witnessed by “well-wishers” and Embarq employees. The company said it planned to post video of the service on its Web site, though, unfortunately, it was not available at press time.
The “wedding” kicked off a new service plan offering to Embarq customers in 18 states. The Embarq Together plan offers unlimited local and national long-distance on the customer’s home phone; 350 wireless anytime minutes and unlimited calling between the wireless and home phones. The service offers an integrated voicemail box, a combined bill and single customer-service phone number. Customers can get the plan for less than $74.90 per month excluding taxes and fees, or can have 700 anytime wireless minutes for an additional $10 per month.
Embarq joins heavyweights AT&T Inc. and Verizon Communications Inc. in offering wired-wireless calling plans.
