LUCENT TO EQUIP KONKA WITH GSM HANDSET TECHNOLOGY

SHENZHEN, China-Konka Group Co. Ltd. of China and Lucent Technologies Inc.’s Microelectronics Group announced a five-year agreement under which Konka will use Lucent’s Global System for Mobile communications technology platform in its cellular phones.

The platform is based on Lucent’s Sceptre GSM chipset, which includes a digital signal processor-based mixed signal chip, a microcontroller chip and a radio-frequency chip.

Konka said it plans to make available handsets equipped with Lucent’s technology in China next month. Konka plans to target Europe second, making its cellular phones available there by 2001.
