PALO ALTO, Calif.-Hewlett-Packard Co. introduced a new line of printers that feature a range of Internet-enabling technologies. Among their capabilities, the new printers enable users to scan documents directly to the Web, remotely manage printers and supplies, and print directly from wireless devices.
The HP LaserJet 4100 allows users to execute Java applications to extend its capabilities as a platform for interacting with e-services, cell phones and handhelds. It also has a smart chip print cartridge and an embedded Web server for remote printer management and supply ordering via the Internet.
The HP LaserJet 3200 and 3200m are multitask devices capable of printing, copying, faxing and color scan-to-Web features.
The HP LaserJet 2200 has an infrared port for wireless printing from wireless devices. A common Web browser allows users to monitor printer and network configuration capabilities with an HP Jetdirect network card.
The HP LaserJet 1200 and 1220 offer integrated color scanner and copier accessories to scan and send color documents via e-mail, to convert documents to digital format for editing and storage, and to scan color images to the Web.
In addition, HP introduced several printing services and supplies. A free, automated Web-based diagnostic and resolution support service for embedded Web server-enabled printers will offer problem-solving service 24 hours a day. The HP Print Server Appliance 4200 has a point and print function that automates the installation of the printers. HP smart print supplies with embedded smart chips allow customers to receive real-time notification via e-mail or cell phone about toner and paper availability. And the HP Jetdirect 175x external print server/Internet connector supports Microsoft and Apple environments that share intelligent information device appliances.
