Sumo Logic releases unified logs and metrics solution for Kubernetes and Docker
Sumo Logic, a cloud-based log management and analytics service provider, announced a first-to-market unified logs and metrics solution aimed at improving applications running on Kubernetes and Docker.
Docker and Kubernetes are two container management platforms which, until recently, were competitors. Containers serve as a kind of lightweight technology, which allow service operators to launch applications on a single, host operating system. Docker announced in October it would incorporate Kubernetes into its platform, effectively putting an end to a two-year rivalry between the two companies in the container orchestration market. According to customer usage data from Sumo Logic, microservices and container adoption is increasing, with Amazon EC2 adoption in AWS at 57% and Kubernetes adoption at around 35%.
The company said Sumo Logic streamlines the data ingestion process with open-source and native integrations commonly used by Kubernetes and Docker, and provides improved visualization and optimized analytics to monitor the pulse of Kubernetes-based applications. This unified approach gives users full visibility and continuous intelligence into their applications and microservices architecture, reduces complexity and improves customer experience, according to the Sumo Logic.
“Although traditional IT operations analytics (ITOA) tools bring visibility to IT teams, they don’t operate well in today’s complex and heterogeneous environments. Shortcomings include the inability to deliver the scale and intelligence across silos that customers need,” said Nancy Gohring, senior analyst for 451 Research. “Businesses are adopting a new breed of ITOA tools and technologies that break the silos and better support the need for speed and agility across modern applications and microservices-based architectures. Some of these tools harness machine learning and bring together log and metric analytics to help IT pros identify and troubleshoot issues more quickly, ultimately delivering a better customer experience across the enterprise.”
Sumo Logic added its multi-tenant data analytics platform and machine learning capabilities can help organizations develop, launch, secure and provision applications regardless of the underlying infrastructure. By expanding native integrations to include microservice-based modern applications, users are able to get a bird’s eye view of applications running on Kubernetes. Out-of-the-box data exploration and visualization capabilities are included to provide insight into the state of applications running on Kubernetes in real-time.
