After increasing its mobile data offerings over the weekend, AT&T said today that it will give new customers a $150 bill credit when they activate a new line of service with a smartphone on an AT&T Next plan. AT&T Next plans enable customers to pay for devices over time instead of at the beginning of a contract.
Also today, AT&T launched a new version of its Next plan at its Consumer Industry Analyst Conference in Atlanta. Next 24 is an installment plan that gives customers 30 months to pay off a new smartphone through monthly payments. It will be offered starting Nov. 9.
The plan will commit customers to AT&T for even longer than a traditional two-year contract, but it offers lower monthly payments than the existing Next plans. The other Next plans are Next 12 (a 20-month installment plan) and Next 18 (a 24-month installment plan).
AT&T is encouraging customers to combine its Next device payment plans with its Mobile Share data plans. When adding a phone purchased through a Next plan to a Mobile Share Value plan, customers can save $25 per month on that smartphone line’s access charge for plans offering 10 gigabytes of data or more per month, or $15 per month on plans with less than 10 GB of data.
