Dish Network’s outspoken founder Charlie Ergen reportedly put in a call to Deutsche Telekom to discuss the purchase of T-Mobile US. Dish has been a rumored T-Mobile suitor for some time; the company is eager to acquire more spectrum in hopes of complementing its satellite TV offering with wireless service. Ergen reportedly told DT that Dish would be interested in bidding for T-Mobile US after November’s spectrum auctions are complete.
Earlier this year France’s Iliad offered to buy T-Mobile US for $33 a share and DT rejected the offer. Throughout the summer, DT was widely believed to be in talks with Japan’s Softbank, which owns the majority of Sprint. Softbank never made an offer for T-Mobile US. Last month, Bloomberg reported that Deutsche Telekom is ready to talk to buyers who are willing to pay at least $35 a share.
