Napatech on big data, SDN and NFV in telecom networks

Napatech’s Dan Joe Barry, VP of marketing, discussed big data trends with RCR Wireless News that include software-defined networking (SDN) and network function virtualization (NFV).

Napatech develops appliance accelerators for networks to enable them to keep up with data flows and processing in the telecom industry, financial services, and others. Barry said SDN is beginning to mature, with the technology getting past the stage of proving it works, to a point where the concerns have evolved to how to manage and secure networks that incorporate SDN and NFV.

“It’s getting to the stage now where there’s a lot of concern about how you’re going to manage and secure these kinds of telecom networks in the future, and what’s going to be required,” said Barry. “We’ve certainly gotten to a stage with those technologies right now where it’s been proven that they work, it’s been proven that the business case holds. But what many see now as the big issue is well, how are we going to actually get this to work in scale, at high performance, and with high-speed networks?”
