Sprint gets ready to launch price cuts next week…
| Mobile Minute: Sprint’s new CEO Marcelo Claure reportedly told his employees yesterday that the company has no choice but to compete on price. Claure said price cuts will be his first priority, followed by network improvements and cost cuts. He acknowledged that those cost cuts will include layoffs but did not elaborate. Claure focused on the value of Sprint’s spectrum holdings, and admitted that the company’s network upgrades have taken too long. Analysts do not expect Sprint’s cost cuts to include a reduction in its network investment. The carrier is currently in the early phases of rolling out its Sprint Spark LTE upgrades. Claure also said yesterday that Apple will become a “crucial part” of Sprint, and that he has already met with Apple CEO Tim Cook. The company’s upcoming iPhone was no doubt a topic of discussion.Meanwhile, Apple’s current iPhones were outsold by Android phones by a 7-to-1 margin during the second quarter.
