Norwegian telecoms provider Telenor shipped three million SIM cards for ‘internet of things’ (IoT) installations in 2017, taking it past the 10 million mark for total IoT connections.
The company’s total global IoT connections now exceed its traditional mobile subscriptions in Scandinavia. Mats Lundquist, chief executive at Telenor Connexion, the company’s IoT division, said the company’s increasing shipments of IoT SIM cards and connected devices demonstrated the rising appetite among industries.
“Despite increasing competition we are proud to have welcomed several new global enterprises while at the same time enjoying renewed trust and contracts with our long term leading customers,” he said.
Telenor Connexion focuses on international clients with large fleets of devices. Its clients include Volvo, Hitachi, Husqvarna, Scania and Verisure Securitas Direct. It is headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, and also has local offices in Germany, the UK, the US and Japan.
The company has built a partner ecosystem for companies of all sizes to collaborate to offer customers a complete IoT solution, including hardware, connectivity , data analytics, business applications, and other services. Amazon Web Services, Capgemini, SECO and HMS joined in 2017.
Telenor Connexion ranks among the top three IoT operators in Europe and the top 10 in the world, according to analyst firm Berg Insight.
