Sprint network outages in heartland, restored but not without frustration

Major Sprint network outages left large Midwestern cities such as Indianapolis, Chicago and Cincinnati without cell coverage.

In a message to customers, Sprint said, “Customers are unable to access voice services or text messaging services in multiple markets in the Midwest. Affected markets are up to and including Chicago; Indianapolis; Milwaukee; Cincinnati; North Wisconsin; Central Illinois; Fort Wayne, Indiana; East Iowa. Sprint network teams have been engaged. We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Here is a map of the affected areas.

The company said the LTE data service was still working and they had engineers on the ground working to restore the service. An estimated time of restoration is not immediately clear.

Some customers took to social media to show their frustrations.

On the other side, one customer took to Facebook to thank Sprint for its quick response.

“Thank you for calling me so quickly after I sent you a Facebook message and offering the small credit for yesterday’s outage,” the poster said. “I really appreciate the customer service. Thanks.”

It’s not clear how many people are affected. It appears not everyone inside the listed areas appears to be having issues.
