Outdoor distributed antenna systems has been a tricky business for carriers and infrastructure providers alike due to zoning challenges, maintenance costs and leasing challenges. Nonetheless, Verizon Wireless is testing the waters with several projects. Analyst Aaron Blazar of Atlantic-ACM said that Verizon Wireless discussed its ODAS initiatives this week at Wells Fargo Securities’ Small Cell Symposium. He said urban centers are the primary focus.
“It sounds like Verizon is engaged on the outdoor DAS side of things and doing deployments in city centers to boost coverage and add coverage, which is different than the other carriers I’ve spoken to, who aren’t focused on outdoor DAS at all,” said Blazar.
In other news from Verizon Wireless, the carrier is reportedly planning to limit data speeds for some of its network’s heaviest users. For more on that, see today’s video below.
