Peru to open spectrum auction for 1700 MHz – 2100 MHz bands

Peru‘s state agency for promoting private investment, ProInversión, has announced that it is starting a bidding process for two blocks of spectrum in bands between 1700 MHz and 2100MHz. The spectrum is intended for telecommunications services and will last 20 years, with possibility of renewal.

The main proposal is to increase broadband, since these bands in were identified by The International Telecommunication Union for use in 4G mobile services.

The concession contracts include coverage and spectrum use goals and obligations, including free Internet service to educational institutions.

The two blocks of spectrum are block A, which covers 1710 MHz – 1730 MHz and 2110MHz – 2130 MHz; and block B, which covers 1730 MHz – 1750 MHz and 2130 MHz – 2150 MHz. The block C (1750 MHz – 1770 MHz and 2150 MHz – 2170 MHz) will not be tendered at this time.
