Shifty picture of Android 3.0 pops up

.
So much for Google slowing the speed of its Android releases, with claims that version 3.0 (Gingerbread) has already been spotted in the wild, just weeks after the official release of version 2.2 (Froyo).
The claims are emanating from the Phandroid blog, with a photo purporting to be the Nexus One running a new version of Android.

The tech community, however, is taking their Gingerbread with a pinch of salt.
Many believe the photo could be either a photoshopped fake or the work of a mischievous developer, although it could just as well be a very alpha version of Google’s upcoming handiwork. At this point, we just don’t know.
The bigger concern here is why Google would be rushing to push out yet another version of Android when most firms haven’t even gotten around to installing version 2.2 on their handsets (*ehem, HTC) and just adds yet another version to the already very fragmented OS.
