Alvarion Ltd. reported revenues of $60.2 million for the fourth quarter, down 14% from revenues of $70.1 million in the fourth quarter of 2008. Net loss for the quarter was $1.3 million, or 2 cents per share, compared with a loss of $4.8 million, or 8 cents per share, for the previous year’s fourth quarter.
Brightpoint said its revenues for the fourth quarter totaled $905.6 million, down 4% year-over-year from revenues of $961.3 million last year. Net income stood at $18.3 million, or 23 cents per share, compared with a loss of $346 million, or $4.35 per share, for the same period last year.
Deutsche Telekom is reportedly considering spinning off T-Mobile USA Inc. The Wall Street Journal reported the German telecom company hired financial advisers to explore an initial public offering or other options to dispose of its U.S. wireless operation.
Ericsson said it reached an agreement with SinglePoint to purchase the company’s strategic operator and aggregation contract assets. The deal will bolster Ericsson’s premium and standard rate messaging reach in the United States, said the company.
Motorola Ventures made a strategic investment in TuneWiki Ltd., which provides social media music players and applications. Motorola was the lead investor in the investment round and was joined by Intellect Capital Ventures, HillsVen Capital L.L.C. and Novel TMT. A previous investor, Benchmark Israel, also participated. TuneWiki said it will use the funds to expand its product offerings.
Openwave Systems Inc. said revenues for its second fiscal quarter, which ended Dec. 31, were $49.7 million, compared with $48.1 million for the same period a year ago. Net income for the quarter was $213,000, or breakeven per share, compared with net loss of $64.2 million, or 77 cents per share, for the corresponding period last year.
Powerwave Technologies Inc. reported preliminary results for the fourth quarter. The company said sales for the quarter were $142.6 million, down from sales of $180.3 million in the previous fourth quarter. The company reported a net loss of $1.3 million, or 1 cent per share, compared with a net loss of $322.4 million, or $2.46 per share, during the same quarter last year.
TeleCommunication Systems Inc. reported revenues of$90.8 million for the fourth quarter of 2008, up from revenues of $79.3 million during the same period the previous year. Net income was $11.4 million, or 20 cents per share, down from net income of $38.2 million, or 78 cents per share, for the fourth quarter of 2008.
