The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–Brazil: TIM Brasil selected Nokia Siemens Networks to deploy and maintain a W-CDMA/HSPA network in several Brazilian states of the southern, northern and northeastern regions.
–Honduras: Ericsson won a GSM/EDGE contract with Digicel Group to supply core network, radio access and microwave transmission equipment.
–India: BSNL awared a $90 million contract to Motorola to supply GSM network equipment. The contract will allow the carrier to expand its network by 2.3 million subscribers in southern India.
–Singapore: Singapore Telecommunications chose Ericsson to expand and enhance the carrier’s GSM/W-CDMA/HSPA networks to provide greater coverage and higher data speeds. The contract is valued at $160 million.
–Switzerland: Ericsson said it won a contract from Sunrise Communications to expand its W-CDMA/HSPA network.
WiMAX
–Ageria: Aperto Newtorks said Icosnet chose it to provide a WiMAX network using its PacketMAX 5000 base stations and PacketMAX 100 subscriber units. The equipment will be used to provide high-speed wireless data to businesses, banks and energy companies.
–Bolivia: Nuevatel PCS selected Alcatel-Lucent to provide a commercial WiMAX rev-e network based on 802.16e-2005 technology.
–Poland: The community of Terespol in eastern Poland has chosen Aperto Networks to provide WiMAX base stations and subscriber units to provide high-speed voice, data and video services through an integrated WiMAX/Wi-Fi municipal network.
–United Kingdom: Alvarion said it has been chosen by Metranet to deploy a WiMAX network in the 3.3 GHz spectrum band. Metranet is using the frequency through a Non-Operational Temporary license from Ofcom. Alvarion’s BreezeMAX base stations and CPE will be used to provide backhaul for closed circuit TV cameras and traffic junction control throughout Reading.
Miscellaneous
–Germany: Andrew said it won a multiyear contract to provide wireless coverage inside Deutsche Bahn AG’s high-speed train ICE. Andrew will provide in-train repeaters for 250 ICE train sets.
–Indonesia: Nokia Siemens Networks said it has been chosen by Indosat to deploy a 3G Service Delivery Platform in its network. The solution includes content management, a video gateway, a video portal, video streaming, messaging gateway platform, charging and partner management.
–United Kingdom: Vodafone UK signed a managed service agreement with Alcatel Lucent to support, maintain and upgrade mobile platforms.
