Oz Communications Inc. is looking to expand its mobile messaging offerings with the acquisition of Thumbspeed Inc. from Hands-On Mobile Inc.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Thumbspeed develops and publishes mobile messaging, photo-sharing and personalization services and applications, including branded services from AOL, MSN and Yahoo Inc. The 3-year-old, Seattle-area company counts AT&T Inc., Rogers Wireless and TeliaSonera among its carrier customers.
Oz initially gained traction with mobile instant messaging applications and has expanded into wireless e-mail and social networking offerings. The company said it will integrate Thumbspeed’s wares with its own mobile messaging solutions in an effort to market more sophisticated offerings across a broader swath of devices and software platforms.
“This acquisition is designed to leverage the strengths of both companies,” said Thumbspeed CEO Hank Skorny. “Together, (we) will deliver products and services that drive growth and innovation, thus enabling our partners and customers to empower their subscribers to do more with mobile messaging.”
