Hedgehogging

Hedge*hog*ing v. Interrupting conversations in an office environment by poking your head over the top of the cube.
Ontela lent us a demo of its PicDeck technology, which automatically uploads photos and videos from consumers’ mobile camera phones and transfers them to their PCs or favorite online photo sharing Web sites, without any need for clicking, typing or searching through menus. And we tried it. And you know what, it took 15 seconds. There were no problems. The quality of the photo did not degrade. Piece of cake. Ontela CEO Dan Shapiro said that once high-pixel camera phones are prevalent in the market, this will be the new way people take photos. Having just strained to see pics of my sister’s new dog, Charlie, and Kelly Hill’s new dog, Shylo, on their respective handsets, I have a new appreciation for this service.

AT&T sued NASCAR because NASCAR wouldn’t let the company put the AT&T logo on the No. 31 car, which currently carries Cingular’s “splat” logo. AT&T claims NASCAR is in bed with Sprint Nextel, and the two are trying to thwart AT&T’s rebranding of Cingular. We don’t get it from several angles: First off, Nextel (plain old Nextel) inked the original deal with NASCAR and then it became (wait for it) Sprint Nextel. So you’d think NASCAR and Sprint Nextel-Nextel would be used to this kind of thing. Further, Cingular has a better brand image than AT&T, according to some reports. So Sprint Nextel should be begging NASCAR to let them not only add the blue globe, but get rid of the Cingular orange and brand altogether. But maybe it’s just because NASCAR has had its brand sullied a bit with all the cheaters recently caught doctoring their cars. It’s a stickler for rules.
And if you want to have some fun, you should ask Managing Editor Dan Meyer how his Worst of the Week column last week dissing NASCAR (And this was before we knew about a lawsuit) went over with RCR Wireless News readers. (Hint: Not very well and none of the nasty e-mails were from Cingular employees.)
