The Federal Communications Commission is expected to rule next week that wireless broadband is an information service, a move that would put wireless Internet access in the same deregulated category as landline telephone and cable TV broadband offerings.
The FCC said it would vote on a declaratory ruling regarding the regulatory classification of wireless broadband at its March 22 open meeting.
FCC Chairman Kevin Martin told the Senate Commerce Committee last month he wanted wireless broadband to be on an equal regulatory footing as other high-speed Internet services.
