Cingular dials up 15-cents-per-minute PTT

Cingular Wireless L.L.C. customers who have push-to-talk phones now have the ability to use the service on an a la carte basis for 15 cents per minute.
The carrier said nine of its PTT handsets can immediately begin accessing the new service, which includes icons that indicate a call recipient’s availability and enables a PTT call to be converted to a cellular call. Customers who want the pay-per-use PTT capability can do so by calling customer care or visiting a Cingular retail location. The carrier said that it would expand the number of devices that will support the service over the course of the year.
Cingular, which is in the process of being renamed AT&T, said it has sold more than 2 million PTT-capable devices.
Cingular’s PTT handsets include the Research In Motion Ltd. Blackberry Pearl; Motorola Inc.’s V365; LG Electronics Co. Ltd. models CG300, CU400 and F7200; Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd.’s D347, D357and D407; and the Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications L.P. Z525a.
Unlimited PTT is available to customers for $10 per month for a single consumer or business line, or families can add the service for up to five lines for $20 per month.
