Leap plans expansion in Texas, will launch in Kentucky

SAN DIEGO, Calif.—Leap Wireless International Inc. is continuing its aggressive rollout of service, preparing to grow its network cluster in Texas and add Kentucky to its roster of states with coverage.

According to the Web site of Leap’s Cricket wireless service, Lexington and Louisville, Ky., will launch July 11. Service is “coming soon” to Austin and the Temple/Killeen areas of east-central Texas. For previous service launches in Texas, “coming soon” meant less than a month remaining before the official launch.

Cricket has already launched service this month in Cincinnati, Ohio and several Texas markets, including Houston, Bryan and College Station.

Leap teamed with Alaska Native Broadband 1 License L.L.C. for several of the markets. Leap owns a 75-percent, non-controlling interest in ANB’s parent company, which won nine spectrum licenses in the Federal Communications Commission’s auction 58.
