Fujitsu to develop chip for monitoring vital signs

NEW YORK-Nexense, an emerging sensing technology and research and development company, contracted Fujitsu Ltd. to manufacture an ASIC chip for non-invasive monitoring and tracking of vital signs via mobile phones.

The new Nexense Wireless Vital Sign Monitoring device uses a proprietary Nexense biosensor application to let customers non-invasively monitor heart rate, respiration and temperature, as well as count steps and transmit cardiac data to doctors or hospitals in real time.

“Consumers are becoming increasingly conscientious of their health and are looking for ways to easily monitor their own vital signs along with those of loved ones,” said Arik Ariav, chief executive officer of Nexense. “By using mobile phones equipped with Nexense’s core technology, consumers will be able to obtain this critical information in a fast, non-invasive manner.”

Nexense’s patented sensor platform can be used for real-time monitoring of physiological parameters, including pulse rate with beat-to-beat variability, respiratory rate and characteristics, temperature and blood flow.

Texas-based MedicTouch offers a similar application for tracking heart beat and pulse via cellular phones.
