MOSCOW-Ericsson will supply equipment to expand the GSM 900/1800 MHz networks of the second-biggest Russian carrier, Vimpelcom (BeeLine), in three Russian regions.

According to the contract, Ericsson will supply a commutation center, base station controllers and more than 200 base stations, as well as General Packet Radio Service (GPRS) equipment to the Volga region, the North Caucasus and Siberia. The equipment is to be supplied by the end of July.

The amount of the deal was not disclosed.

“The pace at which we construct the regional networks of our partner on the Volga, in Siberia and North Caucasus, are truly fast,” said Ericsson Vice-President for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Eddie Ahman.
