VANCOUVER, British Columbia-APAC Telecommunications Corp. and its joint venture partner, Kaili Oil and Gas Co., will install a mobile telephone system in Kaili City in the Chinese province of Guizhou, APAC said.
In August, APAC announced its cellular operations had expanded into China to establish the joint venture. A formal agreement was signed last month.
The companies expect to complete installation of the cellular system by the end of the month, and full service will begin immediately thereafter, APAC said. Kaili City, which currently has no cellular operators, has a population of 800,000 and primarily is a mining, manufacturing and trading center.
APAC said the Guizhou Provincial Government, which recently adopted a policy of establishing a modern telecommunications network to support its growing industrial base, urged the company to expand into Kaili City.
The company’s planned expansion of its cellular system in Guiyang, the capital of Guizhou, has been delayed for several months because of late equipment delivery from Stanilite Electronics of Australia, APAC said.
APAC manufactures and distributes cellular products and services in Southeast Asia with specific interests in China.
