ALCATEL SIGNS DEALS WITH STV, PAC BELL

RICHARDSON, Texas-Alcatel Network Systems announced it has signed a master purchase agreement with the Sprint Telecommunications Venture and received its first purchase order from Pacific Bell Mobile Services related to the construction of new personal communications services networks.

The agreement with STV calls for a four-year, nonexclusive purchase agreement for equipment and services used in the construction of new PCS networks and covers all PCS-related activities, particularly providing equipment and related services to relocate incumbent 2 GHz frequency users to the new 6 GHz band, Alcatel said. The contract covers STV, which holds 29 PCS licenses across the continental United States, and the STV affiliated companies.

Under a master purchase agreement negotiated last June with PBMS, Alcatel is providing digital microwave radios and engineering services, covering projects in Santa Barbara County, Calif. Alcatel said its high-, medium- and low-capacity radios will augment the existing 6 GHz microwave backbone of the County of Santa Barbara’s public safety communications system for emergency services. The work comes as part of the agreement between PBMS and the county to relocate the 2 GHz radio network.

Alcatel also announced it is working with both companies on several other relocation and interconnect projects.
