Level 3 provides insight into the working relationship with partners on the deployment of SDN platforms in support of service agility
For most companies, the deployment of virtualized platforms using software-defined networking, network functions virtualization or cloud technologies requires working with other parties on the process.
Fiber backbone provider Level 3 recently touted work it did in delivering an on-demand network-as-a-service product working with Cisco Systems and its Tail-F division. The company said its Adaptive Network Solutions suite leverages network automation and SDN to support self-service management by customers.
Specifically to the deal with Cisco and Tail-F, Level 3 said it worked to integrate the vendor’s Network Service Orchestrator to develop a programmable wide area network supporting automation of data services and multivendor devices around the world. The platform is also said to allow for orchestrating the service lifecycle through a single data model.
For our featured interview this week, we spoke with Travis Ewert, SVP of network software development at Level 3, about the deployment process, what was involved in working with other companies on deployment of the SDN-based solution and what advice Level 3 has for other companies looking to partner on such deployments.
