Colombia, Mexico to sign agreement to prevent illegal trade in stolen phones

The governments of Mexico and Colombia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Cooperation on Telecommunications and Information Technology that cover actions both countries are taking to prevent illegal trade in stolen phones.

At the meeting in advance of the pact, Colombian ICT Minister Diego Molano Vega and his counterpart in Mexico, Minister of Communications and Transport Dionisio Perez-Jacome Rub discussed joint measures to tackle the issue of theft of mobile phones. The executives also agreed to further develop telecom and IT relationships between the two countries.

Colombia is also approaching other countries, including Ecuador, to jointly tackle the illegal mobile equipment that occurs in the region.
