CCA Spring 2014: Ericsson talks LTE, OSS/BSS, virtualization

SAN ANTONIO – If wireless carriers are involved, there is a good chance network infrastructure giant Ericsson is somewhere nearby, as was the case at this week’s Competitive Carriers Association event in San Antonio, where the Swedish company looked to expand its presence in the small- and mid-tier carrier space.

Not that Ericsson is not already well represented at CCA members, as the company announced during the show a list of rural carriers that had recently signed contracts for equipment and services provided by Ericsson. Those carriers included Wisconsin’s Cellcom; Chariton Valley out of Missouri; and North Dakota-based Dickey Rural Networks.

Glenn Laxdal, VP of advanced technology solutions at Ericsson, spoke with RCR Wireless News on some of the network initiatives the company was looking to share with the CCA members. This included network and software solutions highlighted during a keynote address; focus points for rural carriers, including LTE, OSS/BSS transformation and customer experience management solutions; and forward-looking solutions based on network function virtualization and software-defined networks.
