Maldivian operator deploys Openwave traffic management solution

A wireless operator in Maldives is deploying three of Openwave Systems Inc.’s (OPWV) traffic management solutions. Privately held Wataniya Telecom Maldives plans to deploy Openwave’s Integra, Media Optimizer and Web Optimizer solutions.
The operator is part of Wataniya Telecom, which offers commercial service in Kuwait, Maldives, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Algeria and Palestine. Qatar Telecom owns 51% of the operator. It is deploying the traffic management solutions to more effectively optimize web and video content over its 3G network, with the ultimate goal of saving on bandwidth, Openwave said.
“Having the ability to offer our subscribers a superior mobile Internet experience while making the most efficient use of our network resources is among the highest in importance to Wataniya,” said Saffiyyudeen Rasheed, head of Core Networks at Wataniya Telecom Maldives. “We believe Integra, Media Optimizer and Web Optimizer’s intelligent features will enable us to optimize web and video at the right network thresholds to provide an overall improved subscriber experience supporting our mandate to offer Maldivian subscribers the best user experience versus our competitors.”
