The push by telecom operators to implement software-defined network capabilities continued this week as wireless backhaul provider Ceragon Networks said it has received orders from two “leading national operators” in North America and India to provide its SDN-ready IP-20-based platform. The deals, which Ceragon said involved delivering several thousand units, includes its FibeAir IP-20A product for the un-named North American operator and its FibeAir IP-20C and FibeAir IP-20N products for the un-named Indian carrier.
Ceragon said the North American operator will deploy hundreds of its radio links to carry traffic across the carrier’s nationwide LTE network. The links are designed to support multi-gigabit data rates and will be deployed in all-indoor and split-mount configurations.
For the India deployment, the carrier is set to use Ceragon’s product to support its LTE rollout scheduled to begin this year. Ceragon noted that its IP-20C product is a multi-core solution designed to support gigabit capacity over narrow channels, while the IP-20N product is a multi-radio aggregation node.
Financial terms of the new agreements were not released.
Ceragon unveiled its IP-20 platform last year, noting the offering was designed to serve heterogeneous networks while integrating SDN readiness.
“The IP-20 platform sets a new industry benchmark for microwave-based backhaul and fronthaul solutions,” said Ira Palti, Ceragon’s president and CEO at the time. “With the IP-20 platform, our customers can smoothly transition to 4G/LTE/LTE-A, while preparing for future SDN architectures.”
