Round Rock-based Dell (DELL) was awarded a $252M contract to provide IT services and products through a six-year agreement with the federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
Dell will handle operations, management and updates to the NRC’s Office of Information Systems within the agency’s IT infrastructure as a whole.
The second largest computer maker in the world pocketed the contract through the company’s Perot Systems Government Services division.
Dell also announced that it opened a new cloud research and development center in Dublin, Ireland, which will aid customers in shifting to cloud-based computing solutions. Dell has shown massive expansion in cloud services worldwide and the shift indicates that the company is scaling back computer manufacturing in favor of the cloud.
Company records indicate that the new facility will be part of the Dell Solution Center in Limerick, Ireland, and is a component of a $1B investment strategy in IT solutions and services centers.
Dell plans to increase the workforce by 150 new employees between the two sites in Ireland, adding developers, IT architects and software engineers.
The company also opened a new Dell Experience Center kiosk at Barton Creek Square mall in Austin last week to demo products and services.
Dell employs approximately 15,000 workers in the Central Texas region.
