Analytics and business intelligence solutions are back at the top of Latin American CIOs’ list of priorities. Last year, this topic was ranked fifth, but over the previous six years it was the first priority. This aligns with the worldwide trend, since globally it is also ranked first.

During this week’s Gartner Symposium, the consultant firm released the list of Latin American CIOs priorities for technologies and strategies, comparing them to worldwide trends.
The other technologies listed are: business process management tools (ranked four in LatAm and seven worldwide), collaboration technologies (five in LatAm; not in the top 10 worldwide), CRM applications (six in LatAm, eight worldwide), virtualization desktop, server and storage (seven in LatAm), IT management technologies (eight in LatAm, seven worldwide), service-oriented architecture (nine in LatAm, not in the top 10 worldwide) and security technologies (10 in LatAm and worldwide).
The top ten business priorities and top ten CIO strategies in 2012 for Latin American executives are in line with those for global C-level execs, according to Gartner. Both Latin America and worldwide executives chose “increasing enterprise growth” as the number one priority and “attracting and retaining customers” as number two.
The same can be said for CIOs’ 2012 agenda. The top focus is to deliver business solutions, followed by reducing IT costs and the third focus is to deliver and manage a flexible infrastructure. The survey was conducted between November and December last year, as noted by Donald Feinberg, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner.
