5G networks are accelerating the digital transformation of society, driving inclusive economic growth and helping to bridge the digital divide. They have become strategic infrastructure for many countries and a key engine for industrial upgrading.

However, as 5G networks continue to scale, the overall energy consumption of operators is rising steadily. In Latin America and much of the world, growing electricity demand—combined with geopolitical tensions and regional conflicts—has further intensified the imbalance between energy supply and demand. Against this backdrop, building greener and more energy-efficient networks has become a critical challenge that the industry must address.

Through continuous technological innovation, ZTE has deeply integrated architectural advancements, in-house developed core components, and intelligent algorithms to create solutions that deliver energy efficiency across all scenarios. This enables operators to achieve efficient 5G network deployment with significantly reduced energy consumption.

To reduce energy consumption and build greener networks, it is necessary to coordinate more efficient devices, more effective energy-saving site solutions, and more systematic, intelligent network-wide strategies. ZTE continues to innovate, enhancing energy efficiency at the device, site, and network levels to achieve end-to-end energy reduction and minimize consumption under any load.

As the component with the highest energy consumption in wireless networks, amplifier efficiency is a primary factor affecting overall energy usage. ZTE’s industry-exclusive amplifier architecture innovation, the Super-N platform, overcomes the bottleneck of traditional amplifiers, whose efficiency declines under varying service loads, through a combination of innovative hardware architecture and intelligent algorithms.

Based on ETSI model calculations, the Super-N platform reduces daily average power consumption by up to 38% compared to the industry average.

“With over 37,000 units already running in Brazil, Chile, and Peru, operators are going greener and saving millions on electricity every year. Smarter networks, smaller footprint,” ZTE said.
