India adds 6.5M GSM subscribers in Sept.

India added 6.5 million new GSM customers in September, pushing that segments customer base to 618.3 million subscribers, according to the latest data from the Association of Unified Telecom Service Providers of India.

Other highlights of the data include:

  • Total number of GSM subscribers increased  1.07% from August to September.
    • Uninor had the most of GSM subscriber additions in September adding 1.9 million new customers.
    • Airtel had the most GSM subscribers at 172.8 million.

    The latest market share numbers with regard to GSM subscribers are as follows:

    1. Bharti Airtel
    Total subscribers: 172,782,771
    Additions in Sept. 2011: 935,947
    Market share: 27.95%

    2. Vodafone Essar
    Total subscribers: 144,992,235
    Additions in Sept. 2011: 848,204
    Market share: 23.45%

    3. Idea
    Total subscribers: 100,180,376
    Additions in Sept. 2011: 1,738,662
    Market share: 16.20%

    4. BSNL
    Total subscribers: 91,072,560
    Additions in Sept. 2011: 450,341
    Market share: 14.73%

    5. Aircel
    Total subscribers: 59,794,921
    Additions in Sept. 2011: 603,260
    Market share: 9.67%

    6. Uninor
    Total subscribers: 29,654,304
    Additions in Sept. 2011: 1,916,150
    Market share: 4.80%

    7. Videocon
    Total subscribers: 6,269,281
    Additions in Sept. 2011: -113,212
    Market share: 1.01%

    8. MTNL
    Total subscribers: 5,328,793
    Additions in Sept. 2011: 30,712
    Market share: 0.86%

    9. STel
    Total subscribers: 3,496,394
    Additions in Sept. 2011: 62,406
    Market share: 0.57%

    10. Loop Mobile
    Total subscribers: 3,196,879
    Additions in Sept 2011: 14,912
    Market Share: 0.52%

    11. Etisalat
    Total Subscribers: 1,515,808
    Additions in Sept. 2011: 38,313
    Market share: 0.25%
