U.S. Cellular gets antitrust clearance for Chicago buy

CHICAGO—U.S. Cellular Corp. received Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust clearance for its planned acquisition of the Chicago MTA wireless business from PrimeCo Wireless Communications, satisfying one of the regulatory conditions of the purchase.

The carrier said it expects to meet the various other conditions of the transaction, including approval by other government agencies, with the deal closing during the third quarter of this year.

U.S. Cellular also announced it had recognized a $146 million investment loss on its marketable equity securities for the second quarter. The company said the loss was for accounting purposes only and would not have an impact on company cash flow.
