Ericsson to supply GSM equipment in Nicaragua

STOCKHOLM, Sweden-L.M. Ericsson said it signed a contract to be the sole supplier to Nicaraguan carrier Enitel for GSM 1900 equipment, software and services.

“Our GSM investment starts a new era of development in the telecom industry in Nicaragua,” said Carlos Ramos, chief executive officer of Enitel.

Enitel, a former state-owned telecommunications company, will launch a new mobile network to compete with incumbent operator BellSouth. PCS de Nicaragua, which is owned by Azteca Holdings, also plans to launch service in the country.
