Target is launching what it calls the first scannable mobile coupon program from a nationwide retailer. Customers must opt in to the program on their computer at target.com/mobile, or on their device at m.target.com or by texting COUPONS to 827438 (Target.)
The company said its point-of-sale scanning technology enables the mobile coupons, which are for a single use and have expiration dates. Shoppers will receive text messages with links to a mobile Web page that contains the offers, which can be accessed through a single barcode.
“At Target, we know that mobile phones are an integral part of our guests’ lives, and mobile coupons are just another way we’re providing convenient, on-the-go shopping solutions,” said Steve Eastman, president of Target.com.
Minneapolis-based Target has 1,740 stores in 49 states, as well as Target.com.
