Now, what to do with that extra million dollars you have lying around the house? Hmm, why not spend it on a cell phone made of 18-carat gold, encrusted with diamonds … like the Swiss-made Goldvish “Illusion” phones that run from $25,600 on up to, yes, $1 million.
That is, if you don’t mind toting around a cell phone that weighs nearly a half-pound due to its 140 grams of gold and, of course, all those diamonds. The “Illusion”-aptly named because buyers may be under an illusion that anyone would be impressed with a $1 million phone-is designed by someone you’ve probably never heard of and whose name cannot be easily pronounced (Emmanuel Gueit). The phone front is where you’ll find the diamonds, while the back is made from croco or galuchat, materials no one has ever heard of or knows how to pronounce.
The Illusion’s specifications will not impress anyone with knowledge of cell-phone features, however, since the phone is quad-band GSM supporting GPRS and EDGE, but not the latest W-CDMA technology, and offers the usual bevy of messaging capabilities, a camera and video functions.
Mysteriously, the Illusion has Bluetooth capabilities, but who spends a million dollars on a phone, then hooks up an earpiece so the thing can stay holstered on a Gucci belt? Also somewhat odd is the offering of MP3 player and FM radio; after all, for a million dollars one might fly the London Symphony Orchestra to wherever you are-right now!-for a command performance.
