Google’s Android operating system now makes up a whopping 39 percent of the U.S. smartphone market according to a new report from market research outfit Nielson.
Google, claims the report, has seen its mobile operating system take an extra three percent market share since Nielson’s last stats, with Apple’s iOS also gaining two percent to reach 28 percent share of the overall smartphone OS market.
Where there’s winners, however, there are also losers and according to Nielson the biggest ones are RIM – down three percent to 20 percent overall– and Microsoft OS, down seven percent to just nine percent.
Some analysts, however, have expressed surprise that Apple did not receive a bigger share boost after making its coveted iPhone available to Verizon earlier this year.
