U.S. utility Colorado Springs Utilities has selected Swiss company Landis+Gyr to replace the utility’s metering system with an advanced IoT network technology, capable of supporting the next generation of energy management applications, the former said in a statement.
Under the terms of the agreement, the utility will deploy the Gridstream Connect platform connecting more than 590,000 electric, natural gas and water meters to an integrated network management and data acquisition system. The communication network and metering endpoints will use Mesh IP technology to support accurate and timely two-way meter communication for data collection and establish a platform to support advanced technologies.
Additionally, the new contract provides for managed services by Landis+Gyr for a total 20-year period including deployment and post-deployment services.

Landis+Gyr secures smart meter contract in Sweden
Earlier this month, Landis+Gyr announced a contract to deliver its Gridstream Connect solution for one million metering points to energy firm E.ON in Sweden.
Landis+Gyr’s solution for E.ON’s smart metering rollout will include one million smart electricity meters with NB-IoT/M1 communication technology and a Head End System on a Gridstream Connect platform. The work to replace the existing smart metering infrastructure will begin this month.
With this new technology, E.ON will be able to increase transparency and control in their distribution grid and enhance their customers’ experience through reliable and precise data, the Swiss company said.
