Finnish operator DNA has debuted an ‘internet of things’ (IoT) platform for enterprises in its home country to launch national and international IoT services of their own. DNA’s new platform uses Cisco Jasper’s ‘control center’ product, providing enterprises with control over their IoT connectivity and assets.
DNA wants to be a “significant operator” in the global IoT market, it said, talking up its nascent NB-IoT and incoming 5G services. The launch has been preceded by sustained investment in skills and training within the company itself, as well as in its connectivity platform. The Cisco Jasper management platform will provide visibility and control over IoT services in Finland and via roaming agreements in international markets.
Esa Kinnunen, director of IoT sales and solutions at DNA, said the company wants to accelerate the development of Finnish IoT innovations by launching a “versatile, cloud-based and continuously developing ecosystem for automatic connectivity management”.
He commented: “We are able to provide our customers with optimal capabilities for the development of IoT solutions and their efficient scalability for Finnish and international markets.”
Kalle Ward, managing director of Cisco IoT in the region, said the platform works for both home-grown enterprises with an international outlook, and overseas investors looking to expand into Finland.
“This collaboration will empower innovative enterprises to launch connected services that enhance customers’ experiences and generate new revenue, and to scale those services globally. Global businesses looking to expand their IoT services into Finland can do so leveraging DNA’s network and our management platform.”
DNA is the first Finnish operator to join the IoT World Alliance, a partnership of telecoms providers looking to standardise IoT services around the world, it said.
Cisco said its IoT platform is being utilised by over 55 service providers globally to manage more than 550 mobile networks worldwide. Networking company Cisco announced an enterprise variant of its IoT platform a year ago.
The CK Hutchison-owned Three Group confirmed it was using the Cisco Jasper platform across its international networks in March.
