Dozens of companies have asked the Federal Communications Commission for special temporary authority (STA) to conduct testing in the CBRS band over the last few years. Here are some of the STA permissions granted by the FCC in 2018 for testing CBRS:

– CDE Lightband, an electric utility and fiber network operator in Clarksville, Tennessee, was granted permission in February to put up one CBRS node in order to conduct a CBRS field trial for first responders.

-ARRIS was granted an STA in January to put up one CBRS station in Horsham, Pennsylvania, for the purpose of CBRS field trials.

-Ruckus Networks (owned by ARRIS), has received a number of CBRS STAs, including one granted in May for one station in Sunnyvale, California to test CBRS in a closed, indoor environment; and another for a CBRS demonstration in Dillon, Colorado that covers a time period in August.

-Mill Creek Residential Trust, a private real estate company based in Dallas, Texas that develops properties around the country, was granted an STA in May for one CBRS station for field trials inside a private office building.

-JMA Wireless has applied for an STA that will be in effective in mid-September in Los Angeles, California, and allows “low power, indoor operation of [a] CBRS 3.5GHz base station to demonstrate carrier aggregation and LTE operation for industry exhibition.” The STA dates coincide with Mobile World Congress Americas.

-Federated Wireless was granted an STA for two weeks in mid-May for the purposes of demonstrating CBRS vendor equipment during the most recent CBRS Alliance meeting in McLean, Virginia.

-Mavenir was granted an STA in May to install one CBRS node in Richardson, Texas to “ test the operational performance of an in-building CBRS network.”

-Network infrastructure provider Mobilitie was granted an STA in April for CBRS field trials in Newport Beach, California.

-Neutral-host infrastructure company ExteNet was granted an STA in April for two CBRS stations in Lisle, Illinois. “This testing is in preparation for ExteNet’s anticipated deployment of both indoor and outdoor CBRS networks when commercial service is authorized by the FCC,” the grant document said.
