HELSINKI, Finland-Finnish wireless carrier TeliaSonera announced it launched a streaming music service from Sony Corp., following up on an agreement between the two companies first announced in March at the CeBit trade show.
TeliaSonera said it will initially offer the service free, minus data transfer charges. The service will be available to users with the Nokia 6600 and the Sony Ericsson P800 and P900 smart phones.
“We are very pleased to see Sony’s StreamMan service go live for the first time in the world today in Finland,” said Robert Ashcroft, senior vice president of Sony’s network services division. “This is the beginning of a pan-European rollout that will see StreamMan launched by a number of mobile operators in other European countries later this year.”
The service offers individual music channels and playlists from Sony’s music catalogue and runs on technology from End2End and Alcatel’s PacketVideo Network Solutions subsidiary.
