Motorola Inc. launched its Push-to-talk over Cellular Basic solution, designed to offer small carriers the same functionality and ease-of-use characteristics of the company’s original PoC solution, but requiring minimal configuration for carriers with lower-capacity needs. Motorola noted the PoC Basic service can be upgraded to the original solution should a carrier decide to expand PoC capabilities.
“Now, with our PoC Basic solution, smaller operators have an easy and affordable way to invest in PoC and quickly launch this new revenue-generating service with confidence that their original initial investment can meet future needs,” said Murali Aravamudan, vice president and general manager of Motorola’s Wireless System Division.
Motorola added that it has 15 contracts with customers operating in 21 countries and territories worldwide for its original PoC offering.
To that end, the company announced a PoC contract Monday with Israeli CDMA mobile carrier Pelephone to deliver, install and commission its commercial PoC system. The system, which is scheduled to launch in August 2004, will offer push-to-talk services to more than 2 million Pelephone subscribers, enabling them to have efficient one-to-one or group communication.
