The goal is to make mobile data exchanges more transparent

DENT Wireless Limited, a blockchain mobile data exchange based in Hong Kong, and Aquto, a specialist in sponsored data and data rewards based in Boston, announced they are partnering to discover innovative ways operators can monetize their networks.

The camaraderie will enable Aquto’s Tier-1 mobile operator partners to swap DENT tokens for mobile data. DENT tokens are intended to be used as a global currency for exchanging mobile data with an ethereum blockchain. The aim of the tokens is to turn billions of unused dollars per month into usage. In a transparent and connected market, this untapped potential could be unleashed to fuel mobile data.

Contemporary devices allow people to communicate with video calls, emails and instant messages despite geographical barriers. When it comes to online exchanges, however, people have to place complete trust in a third party to complete a transaction. This makes businesses completely dependent on third parties, which is costly for both customers and companies. An ethereum blockchain can replace third parties that manage transactions online. By eliminating third parties, DENT tokens could become a universal currency in data markets instantaneously.

“DENT is the world’s first global marketplace for mobile data, with fully transparent and dynamic pricing,” said Tero Katajainen, CEO and founder of DENT Wireless. “DENT will allow subscribers to monetize their unused data or quickly buy extra mobile data at low prices. DENT will also prove to be of enormous benefit to travellers who can avoid very expensive roaming charges by buying data locally via the marketplace. The platform will unlock the full potential of global data usage, thus benefitting users and telcos alike.”

Aquto operators can use a DENT appication user interface (API) to purchase data packages from local users. DENT intends to partner with other telecommunications providers, giving them access to DENT’s app as a means to trade mobile data transparently. Both iOS and Android devices have been enabled.

“This is also a big leap for carriers to be part of the new growth opportunity through new customer acquisition and higher data usage per customer, effectively optimizing network utilization,” said Katajainen.“The connectivity offered by Aquto’s platform is a perfect match for the DENT marketplace and the beginning of a world wide mobile data liberation. We appreciate the significant investments Aquto has made to integrate with leading carriers, and signed this letter of intent in anticipation of greatly accelerating the adoption of DENTs in the mobile space.”
